#TakeBackTheStreet

Hub Plaza

Stemming from the University of Alberta Bike Routes Study, Hub Plaza is a study of how the public space at this busy transit hub evolves when the transit centre requires only one lane for operation.

With guidance from a senior landscape architect, Shanna is completing this project to fulfill a portion of her mentorship requirements. In addition to the concept design, Shanna will provide a broader vision and refined details for the space.

Strat Alley

Strat Alley is a fictitious name given to a prominent pedestrian alley in Old Strathcona. The project was brought forth by a local developer as an effort to get the business association, and ultimately the City of Edmonton, on board with livening up this alley way that serves as the “front door” of numerous businesses.

This project included the investigation of existing conditions of the alley and the surrounding land uses, and providing a concept plan that could be used to help guide future design for the space. Shanna led the design of Strat Alley, delivering a viable and exciting option for the community to take forward to City representatives.

Bringing Strat Alley to Life:

Though Strat Alley began as a design study, the project was latched onto by the business community and local politicians. This led to the design and construction of the alley to be included in the Old Strathcona Neighbourhood Renewal work and the alley, given the official name of “Back Street” was brought to life.

Green Bay Shared Corridor Vision Plan

The City of Green Bay wanted to develop a concept plan and toolkit of tactical elements they could use within the study area to accommodate outdoor activities and activate the public realm during the time of COVID-19. The guide is intended to provide the city, residents, and business owners with ideas on how to transform and activate the street space  with short-, medium-, and long-term improvements.

Shanna was an fundamental part of a small team of landscape designers assembled to develop a highly graphic, easy-to-use manual for enhancing outdoor street space. Shanna and the team developed design approaches, graphics, maps, and a design manual.
